The
James Bond saga has endured over decades with its lush spectacle,
technical wizardry, and of course, Bond, James Bond, the irresistible
seducer always up to the challenge, inside the bedroom and out. For many
viewers, including Anna-Maria, the arrival of the next Bond adventure is
eagerly awaited, like an exciting and familiar ritual. Everyone knows
what’s going to happen, they just can’t wait to see how it happens.
Pierce Brosnan carries on the Bond tradition in grand
style. He plays a slick, quick, handsome, wry, and charming Bond. The
World is Not Enough delivers everything expected and more. In this
adventure, Bond must figure out who is trying to assassinate the
beautiful Elektra King (Sophie Marceau), the builder of the new oil pipe
line. The character of Elektra King is a refreshing addition to the
traditional Bond story. She is much more than just a pretty catch for
Bond and is played with mysterious allure. Denise Richards plays the
second female Bond sidekick, or is it sidetrick. Many will be delighted
by the appearance of John Cleese as R, the new "gadget" man,
and of course, Judi Dench is M, the tough lady in charge of the spy
game. It is a real blast to see these superb Brits in this film comic
book of distinction.
As is customary in a Bond film, the action jumps
between several exotic locations where Bond gets to exhibit his fearless
stunts. Whether he is jumping off the balcony holding on to a line
strapped to his belt, or diving in and out of a nuclear submarine, we
were tickled by it all.
If you love Bond films, you’ll love this one, and if
you don’t, The World Is Not Enough is still worth a look
because it has a bit more depth and character than most. And of course,
the special effects and stunts just keep getting more amazing.
