Blue Streak - Soundtrack

cover An Urban Slapstick Howler.

It’s been a while since we’ve rolled in our seats laughing, and Blue Streak’s slapstick definitely filled the bill for us. This charming urban comic book abounds with hilarious situations cleverly acted by Martin Lawrence.

When a jewel thief Miles Logan (Lawrence) comes out of prison, he returns to the scene of the crime looking for a diamond he stashed away. Unfortunately, the building where the diamond is hidden is now LAPD headquarters so Miles fakes his way into the detective squad. When he gets stuck working on real police cases, he resorts to more and more of his street smarts and high tech burglary expertise, which prove incredibly effective in fighting crime.

Special appeal of the Lawrence character comes through a balanced blend of intelligence, comedy, and resolve. Miles Logan is not funny because he is stupid, he is funny because he is very clever. When he has his eyes set on something, he will bend or break every rule, cut every corner, or make up any story. He is not a violent man, but he will do what it takes. In many ways, we are not bothered by the fact that his intelligent, happy go lucky guy is a robber. We just think about all those opportunities we had to get something done in a new, original, more efficient way, and we didn’t because of this or that rule. How refreshing to see a comedy, which lets us laugh at our silly tendencies to play it by the book.
